So often we hear women complain that they don’t know what perfume they like. They are commonly afraid to buy something new and they stick with the perfume they are using for ages. These days we have bombarded with new launches for perfume; thanks to increasing numbers of perfume bottle manufacturers. There are more or fewer hundreds of different fragrances available in the market.
So, how do you get which perfume is right for you? Perfume is a personal choice and what suits one person might not suit the other. Not only fragrances are the personality reflectors, but they also smell different on every person. The reason is they get mixed with natural oils and acids of your skin.
Perfumes are categorized mainly in eight different areas. Once you grasp what category you feel the best, you can narrow down your search.
1) Floral
By far the most popular and largest category. An array of different floral variant is available in the market including
- Rose,
- Carnation,
- Jasmine,
- Gardenia and
- Orange Blossom
You can combine it with any other family as flowery perfumes are universally loved. This also incorporates single flower compositions such as jasmine, rose, tuberose, lily of the valley, or ylang ylang.
2) Flowery Aldehydic
This form of fragrance is often described as a ?little powdery?. These are quite soft although the aldehydes add sparkle to flowery notes. Think Carolina Herrera 212, Chanel No5, and Bvlgary Omnia Cristalline.
3) Citrus
This fragrance class is tangy, light, refreshing, and uplifting. The light and fresh characters of the citrus notes (tangerine, bergamot, lime, orange, petitgrain, lemon, mandarin, etc.) are often combined with sweeter scents such as fruits, flowers, and chypre).
Think of Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, Clarins Eau Tranquility, and Donna Karan Be Delicious.
4) Green
The green class of fragrances is fresh with a tinge of sharpness. This often reminds you of one of the freshly cut pine, grass, and herbs. It is almost a sporty and outdoors fragrance. Green notes are quite organic and often married with floral and fruity notes. Think of Christian Dior Tendre Poison and Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca.
5) Oriental
These are warm, sensual, and quite exotic fragrances eluding to the mystery. Oriental contains oriental resins, musks, precious woods, vanilla, and dark chocolate. These perfumes are not for the shrinking violet or the fainthearted. Think of Guerlain Shalimar Christian Dior Poison and YSL Opium.
6) Soft-Oriental
Soft orientals mix with oriental notes with various florals. Top notes are often fresh. Clinique Simply and Britney Spears In Control.
7) Chypre (Woody)
Based on flowery and mossy complex, a woody, Patchouly, containing Cedar, Vetiver, Sandalwood, and Pine. Sometimes with a hint of fruits, chypre perfumes are tenacious and rich. Narciso Rodriguez For Her, Guerlain Samsara, and Donna Karan Cashmere Mist are a few of its examples.
8) Watery
These are marine or aqua notes reminding one of the oceans or the fragrance after sea breezes, a big downpour, and cool, fresh dew. Think Bvlgary BLV Notte and L’Eau d’Issey by Issey Miyake.
Once you decide on the perfume you love, you get further choices. What strength you wish your perfume to be.
Here are you?re a few choices:
PERFUME ?
The longest-lasting and strongest fragrance form. Apply at every pulse point including
- the beat of the heart,
- at the base of your throat,
- at the bosom,
- the nape of your neck,
- behind your ears,
- the inside bend of your elbows,
- behind your knees, and
- at the inside of your wrists
The body heat at these points assures a well-balanced fragrance application. It typically comes in a dab-on bottle. This form will last on the skin for 8-12 hours.
EAU DE PARFUM ?
One of the common forms of perfumes to be found in several fine fragrance collections. It should be sprayed or smoothed slightly before dressing. This is a spray bottle and it lasts on the skin for 6 – 8 hours.
EAU DE TOILET ?
Usually less in concentration than Eau de Parfum. It should be applied in the same way as Eau de Parfum. Check that this is always in a spray bottle provided by a reliable custom glass bottles manufacturer. It will last on your for skin 4 – 6 hours.
COLOGNE-
This is the lightest type of fragrance. Perfect for liberally splashing all over the body. It is an ideal refreshant. It does not last relatively long on the skin.
Last Word
Once you get familiarized with the various choices available, it’s time to hit the perfume counter. However, go slowly as our noses recognize only up to three smells only. So don’t go berserk in twenty different perfumes. Once you try three different smells on your skin, simply walk away.
Leave the perfume checking area as the air contains the smells for some time. Leave the perfume on your body or skin for ten minutes before smelling it again. In this way, you get a sense of true fragrances. If you still love it, congrats! You get your thing.
